Les Tonyines is a small, semi-urban cove about 1 km south of Llançà, on the rugged Costa Brava coastline. It’s roughly 90–100 metres long and set in a gently curving bay, with rocky outcrops and low cliffs giving it a sheltered, slightly secluded feel despite being near a residential area.
The water is typically very clear and calm, making it popular for snorkelling and exploring marine life. However, entry into the sea is moderate and slightly uneven, with a rocky and reef-like seabed near the shore, so you need to watch your footing. It’s better suited to confident swimmers than small children or anyone unsteady on their feet.
The beach surface is definitely not fine sand. It is mainly coarse material pebbles, gravel, and stones, sometimes mixed with very coarse sand. That means it can be uncomfortable for lying directly on without a mat, but it also helps keep the water clear.
**This beach is protected from the Tramontana, if you want to go to the beach on a windy day this is one of the beaches which is out of the wind.**
Access is straightforward overall. You can reach it easily by road, and from the coastal path (Camí de Ronda) there are paths and steps connecting it to neighbouring coves like La Farella, so walking access is easy to moderate rather than difficult.
In short: a scenic, clear-water pebble cove—great for snorkelling and relaxed swimming if you’re comfortable with stones and a slightly rocky entry.
