Port Beach (Platja del Port) in Llançà, on Spain’s Costa Brava, is a lively, urban beach with a friendly, accessible feel. Stretching about 400–425 metres long and around 20–30 metres wide, it sits between the fishing and leisure ports on one side and a small river mouth on the other.
The beach is made of very coarse sand and small pebbles, which means the water is usually clear but the shore can feel slightly rough underfoot. Entry into the sea is gentle, with a gradual slope, making it suitable for most swimmers, including families.
Swimming conditions are generally good: the water is often calm, especially in summer, though it can become windy at times due to coastal breezes. The beach has a Blue Flag rating, indicating clean water and good safety standards.
Because it is in the centre of town, it can get busy, particularly in peak season, and there may be boats nearby due to the harbour setting. However, it is well-organised with marked swimming areas, lifeguards in summer, and facilities like showers and easy access.
Overall, Port Beach is ideal for relaxed swimming in a convenient, social setting rather than a wild or secluded experience.
