Snorkeling in Llançà is one of the best low-key experiences on the Costa Brava. The coastline around Cap de Creus has clear water, rocky coves, and lots of marine life without the heavy crowds you find farther south. Early morning is usually best because the sea is calmer and visibility improves dramatically before the afternoon wind picks up.

For beginners, Cala Bramant, Platja de Grifeu, and the small coves toward Cap Ras are ideal. You’ll see sea bream, wrasse, octopus hiding in rocks, and plenty of underwater plants. Water shoes or fins help because many entry points are rocky rather than sandy. A short wetsuit is useful outside peak summer because currents around Cap de Creus can make the water feel colder than expected.

For equipment, the easiest option in town is CENTRE D’IMMERSIÓ CAP DE CREUS. They rent snorkeling gear and can also tell you which coves are safest on the day depending on wind and currents. If you want kayak plus snorkel combinations to reach quieter spots, SK Kayak is excellent and very popular for guided coastal trips. Nearby in Port de la Selva, Cap de Creus Dive and CIPS – Centre d’Immersió Port de la Selva are also strong options for quality gear and local advice.

Avoid full-face snorkel masks; regular mask-and-tube setups are safer and more comfortable for longer swims. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, plenty of water, and watch the tramuntana wind forecast carefully because conditions can change quickly along this coast.
